I'm too busy with research to do PR - why should I bother?

We strongly believe it's worth the effort - and many researchers we've worked with agree with us.

If you're a busy person, you won't want to waste time reading a long-winded answer, so let's be brief:

  1. Media coverage raises your profile internally, which can only help when you want to argue for more of your time to go on research.
  2. Media coverage raises your profile externally, including with funders. Research councils love to see their research out in the media.
  3. Some researchers use press cuttings of coverage they've gained to support new funding bids - and these are researchers with a successful track record in getting their work funded.
  4. Media coverage - particularly in trade and technical publications - can get you noticed by potential industrial or other external collaborators or funders, which could help get the next project off the ground.
