From abstracts to international news: Goldschmidt 2025’s media success
European Association of Geochemistry
CONFERENCE PRESS & PR
The Goldschmidt Conference is the world’s premier annual meeting on geochemistry and related subjects, attracting thousands of scientists from around the globe.
The brief
For the Goldschmidt2025 Congress, held in Prague, the European Association of Geochemistry wanted to ensure the most newsworthy research reached international audiences well beyond the scientific community. For the team at Campus PR & Communications, the challenge was to identify the most compelling stories from hundreds of detailed scientific abstracts, repackage them as media stories, and secure high-quality, global coverage.
Our approach
Working in close collaboration with the Goldschmidt’s team of academic advisors, our team followed a five-point plan:
Abstract review: Reviewed abstracts and interviewed researchers to select the seven most impactful stories with potential for media appeal. We aligned abstracts to key areas of strength in geochemistry research and topical science news.
Story development: Developed clear, engaging press releases covering topics from volcanic eruptions triggered by melting glaciers, to fig trees that lock carbon dioxide into stone.
Media planning: Targeted press releases to international science, climate, agriculture and other specialist outlets alongside major news agencies. We tailored outreach to key media in the countries where the research originated.
Collaboration: Coordinated with researchers’ home institutions to amplify coverage via local media and their own channels.
Distribution and monitoring: Distributed releases and provided responsive media liaison between journalists, the Congress team and researchers before, during, and after the event.
The results
By combining story selection with tailored international outreach, we helped transform complex scientific research on geochemistry into globally relevant news that positioned Goldschmidt2025 at the forefront of science stories that week.
Between 6 and 25 July 2025, media monitoring identified:
664 media mentions in 57 countries, across 27 languages.
24 Tier 1 media hits in outlets including The Guardian, The Independent, Newsweek, Der Spiegel, Le Figaro and The Times of India.
Specialist and Tier 2 coverage across a broad range of national and special interest outlets including New Scientist, Infobae, Space.com and Inside Climate News.
2.7 billion potential impressions (based on known audience figures).
Significant syndication across international news platforms, including Yahoo!, MSN and AOL
Strong regional uptake, particularly in the US and Germany.
